Building Sonoran · Part 1

Who am I becoming?

The story of building a head spa on Tucson’s westside, from empty warehouse to sanctuary.

By Adriana Hill, Founder

The day it became real: keys in hand at Unit 3130.

The question that guides every decision

When I started building Sonoran Head Spa, I gave myself one question to carry through every decision: Who am I becoming?

Building a business tests you in ways you can’t predict. Every bid, every number, every choice became a mirror. And every time, I came back to that question.

With gratitude to Ivan Lopez

I want to honor Ivan from the very beginning. I’ve worked with contractors before, and Ivan has been the best. He is calm, grounded, and deeply knowledgeable, which is exactly the energy I wanted building this space.

His team has been amazing: clean, efficient, professional, and punctual. They show up and do what they say they’ll do. We’re still in the process, and every step has been a pleasure.

Choosing our home

The location was my first real test. My first choice was the space right next door to my salon, but it won’t be available for another two years. I had to decide: wait, or move forward.

I chose to move. Sonoran Head Spa was ready to be born.

We found our home just 20 feet away, in the same Silverbell Flex Center on Tucson’s westside. Same community, same parking lot, a completely new experience. Clients who know Adriana Hill Salon & Co can now find something entirely different a few steps away: a space built only for rest.

Building with fiscal responsibility

I gathered bids from electricians, plumbers, drywall and HVAC contractors. I sat with projections until the numbers told the truth. I partnered with the Tucson Small Business Center, who have been incredible guides, so every choice came from clarity and responsibility.

Then I got honest about what was essential. I edited the plan down, letting some things go so I could invest fully in what truly defines Sonoran. Those became my non-negotiables, and that’s where the major investment went.

Blue tape, big plans.

And when it all came together, I noticed something. The process repeats itself. Ask. Gather. Ground. Decide. Over and over.

Dedicating the space

Before a single hand touched this space, I consecrated it.

I walked through the empty building and wrote on every inner wall: my purpose, my why, my mission, my vision, what I want every guest to feel, and what I want this place to accomplish. Those words are now sealed inside the walls of Sonoran Head Spa.

And on one wall, the words that started it all:

Para mi mami.

When you rest here, you’ll be held by intention you can’t see but can feel.

Built by Tucson

One of my favorite parts of this journey: every contractor on this build is local. I’ve extended that to everything I can, from our tees to our providers to our marketing. Sonoran is built by this community, and it’s built to give back to it.

Our “breathe” tees were made by Micah at Sooner Prints, a Native American owned and operated custom apparel and screen printing business with over 15 years of experience. He’s been wonderful to work with.

Building from calm

Through all of it, I’ve protected my energy fiercely, even in the moments no one sees.

I follow one rule: I sit with every big decision for at least 24 hours. No person, no pressure, no timeline gets to rush me. It’s a practice my husband and I live by at home, and I carry it into my business. It works.

I don’t force anything. I trust that everything I need will be there when I need it, as I need it.

That awareness lets me release the grip and let the pieces fall into place, effortlessly and seamlessly.

I wanted this space built from the same place it will offer you: a nervous system that’s calm, clear, and rested.
